“Sun Salutation”

Namaskar translates as “salute” and surya as “sun”. This is a ritual generally performed in the morning to thank the sun for everything it does for the Earth. Look at the illustrations: this is a short series of poses designed to wake the body up and render it supple and strong at the same time. It also helps you to warm up and welcome the sun inside you!
Start in the Mountain Pose and then, while breathing in, raise your arms towards the sun to salute it. As you breathe out, simply bring your hands together in prayer in front of your heart. Repeat this cycle several times to discover how to use your breath to move from one pose to the next. This form of yoga is also called vinyasa. The Sanskrit word vinyasa describes a string of poses linked to breathing. In yoga, inhalation and exhalation are key elements allowing the circulation of vital energy – the prâna.
