“Half Moon Pose”

Yoga is a quest for balance. We are fire, air, water and earth, and we need air to feed the fire just as much as we need water and earth to calm us! You may already have heard the term “hatha yoga” before. Ha means sun and tha means moon. Hatha yoga aims to balance two complementary forces: solar energy (energising) and lunar energy (calming).

We have already saluted Surya (the sun), so let us now salute Chandra (the moon)! Start by imagining the crescent of the moon. Enter the Mountain Pose. Raise your arms with your palms together and bend to the right. Keeping your legs well anchored and stable on the ground, push into your right foot to extend your whole right side. Return to the centre and repeat to the left.
